With 2013 just beginning, The Daily Shift’s Aine Ryan outlines her personal hopes about what the next twelve months will entail…

Many students will be seeing scenes like this quite often in 2013
As the ‘party season’ peaked on New Year’s Eve, I’m pretty sure that many of you are still recovering from your hungover heads. Meanwhile, the rest of us are pondering over our potential New Year’s Resolutions. Will I: a) drop a dress size? b) join the gym? c) be a nicer person? d) ace my exams? or e) solve world peace? Chances are you’ll stick to your new lifestyle change for approximately three and a half days, before the pressure becomes all too much and you completely revert back to your old ways by January 7.
So what’s my New Year’s Resolution? Hopefully, I’ll go out more and have a few crazy nights this year. I’m actually not being sarcastic. I am being 100% serious. I’m not saying that I’m going to go wild every single night of the week for the whole year which will consequently cause me to have a stint in rehab as a result of, as the celebrities would say, “extreme exhaustion”. However, I endeavor to doll myself up occasionally on Thursday and Saturday nights, before enjoying a few sociable beverages and the company of friends and random strangers (who may turn into new friends).
Don’t get me wrong, I am not the stereotypical: ‘life and soul of the party’. I have no intentions of becoming that type of person either. In fact, I must admit that I would happily spend the day watching television and reading books in my pyjamas, in front of the fire if I could. Nevertheless, I am a college student. This means that if you don’t like going out, then you get to like going out. There are no other options. (Well, you could drop out of college and live in a monastery but that would be slightly extreme, don’t you think?) I have chosen the former as I crave the craziness of college nights out. On a personal note, 2012 wasn’t the best year for me so I want to move on and just have some silly, unsophisticated fun. I might even master the art of wearing high heels. Or maybe I’ll save that one for next year… Anyway, I’ll let you know how it goes this time next year. Hope 2013 will be a great one for you all.
