There was no joy for the Irish supporters last night at the Partypoker.com darts Grand Prix. That is because Ireland’s Micky Manselll was eliminated from the competition, losing to Paul Nicholsen in straight sets. Mansell often struggled with his starting doubles and had a much lower three dart average than his opponent, ranked 15 in the world.

World number two Adrian Lewis needed three sets to get past Richie Burnett. It seemed to be plain sailing for the Stoke-on-Trent man until a second set fightback from Burnett. However, the two-time world champion held his nerve to progress to the round of 16.

Veteran Raymond van Barneveld will not be there. The Dutch man lost to little known Ian White 2-0, a huge win for the world number 37. Colin Osbourne also upset the odds last night beating James Wade. Wade, the 2007 champion, will be disappointed to be knocked out at the first hurdle in a major TV tournament.

The other winners on day two were Steve Beaton, Andy Hamilton, Wes Newton and Holland’s Michael van Gerwin. Fermanagh’s Brendan Dolan is opening the show tonight. He is playing Vincent van der Voort who beat Irishman William O’Connor on Monday.

The draw for the second round is now complete and is as follows:

Brendan Dolan v Vincent van der Voort.
Justin Pipe v Kevin Painter
Phil Taylor v Robert Thornton
Mervyn King v Dave Chisnall
Wes Newton v Ian White
Andy Hamilton v Steve Beaton
Colin Osbourne v Paul Nicholson
Adrian Lewis v Michael van Gerwin

Coverage continues tonight on Sky Sports with the first four second round match-ups.
